In partnership with DataKind UK and Bank of America, we conducted our first-ever DataDive to generate new insights into the children and young people that live in our Zone.

What is a DataDive?

DataDives are weekend-long events, where DataKind UK brings together mission-driven organisations and teams of volunteer data scientists to provide pro bono support and gain insights into their programmes. Our DataDive was a collaborative event with Bank of America volunteers who worked with us to leverage our data to better understand our West London community.

The weekend dive

From London to Mumbai, via Zoom, and within 48 hours alone, we worked with 20+ volunteers to tackle our DataDive questions and explore children and young people’s characteristics. We shared our mission to help children and young people build the relationships and skills they need to get on track socially, emotionally and academically and explained our challenge for the weekend. Over the weekend, the team of volunteers analysed the data that we have collected from our local partner schools, and external data such as national deprivation statistics and school performance data to help us to reach the children and young people that would benefit most from our support. After lots of coding, multiple slack channels, a virtual happy hour and the survivor’s selfie screenshot, we came away with a range of new insights that have helped us to learn about the profile of children and young people in our Zone and inform our growth strategy.

A huge thank you to DataKind UK for running a brilliant event and to the team of volunteers who were really motivated to use their data science skills to help support children and young people in our West London community.
