We are delighted to announce that Andrew Berwick, former CEO of The Access Project, will be joining the West London Zone team in September 2021 as Strategy and Impact Director. In this new role, Andrew will ensure that we continue to place impact at the heart of the development and implementation of our 5-year strategy and growth plan.

Andrew Berwick said:

“Like all of my new colleagues at West London Zone, I believe that all children have the potential to thrive with the right support. This needs to be early intervention and it needs to be holistic: the social and emotional aspects of a young person's life are just as important as the academics.

In my role as Strategy and Impact Director my goal will be to ensure that our support reaches the young people that need it, and that it is as effective as possible. I will also be responsible for helping West London Zone to learn more about the impact it's already having through its 4-year evaluation with UCL's Institute of Education, and for planning to grow to reach all of the young people within the Zone who need our support.”

Louisa Mitchell, CEO of West London Zone, said:

“We are delighted that Andrew is joining our team as Strategy and Impact Director. He brings with him a broad range of experience in education and supporting children and young people in their community. We are in the first year of a new 5-year strategy, delivering well on all of our key milestones and focused on remaining impact-led as we grow and develop. In this important new role, Andrew will ensure that our strategy is constantly informed by our impact and vice versa.”

Before his appointment, Andrew worked as a freelance consultant with organisations focused on education and young people to develop their strategy and impact. Prior to that, he was CEO of The Access Project, an award-winning charity focused on widening participation at selective universities, from 2012-18 during a period of organisational growth. Andrew started his career as a secondary school teacher with the Teach First programme, before spending four years as a strategy consultant at PwC.
