Sir Harvey McGrath joins WLZ Board as Chair of Trustees

Today West London Zone announces a change of Chair of the Board. From our next Board meeting on 24 April 2018, WLZ will be chaired by Sir Harvey McGrath.

Sir Harvey is the former Chairman of Man Group and Prudential plc. He is the Chairman of Big Society Capital and an experienced backer of innovative social projects, especially those working with children and young people.

Danny Kruger, the co-founder of WLZ and current Chair, is stepping down from the Board to avoid a conflict of interest in his new role as an Expert Adviser in the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). This department oversees civil society policy and, through the Commissioning Better Outcomes Fund, part-finances WLZ.

Danny Kruger says:

‘I am so proud of what the team has achieved. In the few years WLZ has been up and running we have proved the vision that Paul Marshall and I had back in 2012, of a network of charities and funders working together, in a single community, to prevent problems developing for children and young people. I am delighted Harvey is joining the Board as Chair. His arrival represents a huge endorsement of our CEO Louisa Mitchell and her team, and he will help us develop the vision further. WLZ is in great hands.’

Sir Harvey McGrath says:

‘WLZ’s innovative, place-based approach is changing the lives of young people through an evidence-led suite of support, tailored to the strengths, needs and interests of each child; delivered through a partnership with charities, schools, families and community organisations; and with outcomes commissioned by a mix of local schools, local government, private philanthropists and central government. All of this resonates strongly with me, and I am very pleased to take on the role of Chair to help the organisation continue to grow and scale, and to explore the opportunities for replication of this model in other areas.’
